ROMEX® NP JOINTING SAND

Ensures optimal joint sand stabilization for segmental paving applications

ROMEX® NP Jointing Sand is a polymeric jointing sand that ensures optimal joint sand stabilization for segmental paving applications for patios, driveways, and commercial pavements. Not only does ROMEX® NP Jointing Sand prevent jointing sand loss, but it also eliminates any risk of weed growth and mining ant infestation. Such properties ensure a more aesthetically pleasing and durable paved surface.

Sand grouting between pavers is crucial in order to interlock pavers but in certain environments, conventional sand can be problematic. In the past, cement grouting has been used in South Africa, but it never works. Over time, cement grouting breaks and pops out and it generally also stains the pavers in some form. With a polymer binder, ROMEX® NP Jointing Sand is a self-hardening jointing sand that overcomes the shortcomings of cement grouting. Another advantage of ROMEX® NP Jointing Sand is that it is self-repairing. So do not be alarmed when small cracks form. With rain and heat, those cracks will disappear.

Navigate your way through the tabs below:

1. Apply ROMEX® NP Jointing Sand

Pour the jointing sand onto the dry surface and mix it with a spade to ensure the best mixing of grainsize.

2. Work in ROMEX® NP Jointing Sand

Work ROMEX® NP Jointing Sand into the joints using a broom. To achieve a comprehensive filing of the joint, always sweep diagonally to the joint and fill the jointing sand up to the top edge of the paving stone/bevel.

3. Compaction

Use the vibratory plate as long as the surface is suitable for vibratory plates. If necessary, use a protective mat.

4. Refill Joints

Refill the joints up to the top edge of the paving stone/bevel. Sweep the surface carefully using a fine hair broom, until no more sand is on the stone surface.

5. Wet Joints

Wet the joints using a spray set to fine mist (Do not use a watering can). The joints should be moistened until they no longer absorb the water. Repeat this process after 1-2 hours.

ROMEX® NP Jointing Sand can be used on most segmental paving applications. It is ideal for paved surfaces where jointing (grouting) sand loss will be prevalent. Such surfaces include steep driveways and paving under gutter/down pipes.

ROMEX® NP Jointing Sand contains a self-hardening polymer binder which holds the sand together. Plaster sand or kiln dried sand relies solely on interlock between angular sand particles.
